The NHF “Work-it-Out” Challenge is a weight loss and fitness team competition that encourages individuals to change their lifestyle to achieve a healthier mind and body. The competition lasts for twenty four (24) weeks and emphasizes diet and physical activity as a way to reduce a person’s risk of developing chronic diseases. Improving dietary habits and increasing physical activity, can have a major impact in reducing the risk of developing chronic illnesses.

The competition features various exercise sessions, boot camps, dance exercises, and nutrition workshops, with weigh-ins at intervals. The 10th staging of the competition is slated to start in September 2019.

Description of the Teams

NHF work it out challenge 5

A team is made up of 5 individuals from the same organisation, community or a group of friends. All team members must have a BMI of 28 or more to qualify. Each Team must have an assigned Team Captain. The Team Captain must be informed about the competition rules and motivate the team to participate and achieve team goals. All correspondences will be directed to the Team Captain via email or sms messages

Regional Winners

Individual points for each Team Member will be averaged to determine the Team winner. The Team with the highest number of points overall will be declared the winner. If more than one of the Top Teams has the same amount of points causing a tie, the team with the highest weight loss will be awarded the prize and the other team will take the spot below.

National Winners

The Team with the highest number of points overall will be declared the winner. If more than one of the Top Teams has the same amount of points causing a tie, the team with the highest weight loss will be awarded the prize and the other team will take the spot below.

Individual Winners

For this year, for the first time there will be a category for individual winners. If for some reason persons have dropped out and a team is left with less than four members, we ask that you complete the challenge and do your final weigh-out so you can be eligible for awards in the individual category. The individual with the highest number of points will be declared the winner.

How Will Points Be Awarded?

Each team entered in the challenge is to complete weight, height, BMI, waist circumference measurements, blood pressure test and fitness level tests at the start of and end of the competition. The fitness level tests will include sit and reach, and wall push up and 1K walk/run.

At the end of the competition, the % change in Weight, and Waist measurements as well as the change in fitness level will be calculated for each team member. The Average % change for all parameters will also be calculated for each TEAM.
Points will be awarded according to the calculations done.
Example 1: If %change (∆) in Weight is 6 = 6 points
Example 2: If % change (∆) in Waist is 10 = 10 points

One point will also be awarded to each team member for registered attendance at each event throughout the 24 week period mid-point weigh-in, dance sessions and aerobic exercise sessions. Points will also be awarded for each online nutrition assessment completed. Teams with the highest nutrition scores will have a chance to enter the nutrition quiz at the end of the competition.

Nutrition Component

Welcome to the NHF Work-It-Out Challenge nutrition component.
We are aware of the busy lifestyle of individuals so for this year, the nutrition component will be delivered online to allow for each participant to view at their own convenience.

Please see the outline of the nutrition component below.

1. Introduction Video
The introduction video provides an overview of the nutrition component. Please spend a few minutes to view the video as this will set the tone for the entire nutrition component.

2. Resource Material
Each participant has received a copy of the Food-Based Dietary Guideline. It provides useful nutrition tips to guide your new eating habits. Follow the advice in the book and it will help you to achieve your goals.

3. Nutrition Videos
The core aspect of the nutrition component will be administered online through videos.
Six informative videos will be uploaded on this page. A simple question and answer segment will go along with each video.
Individuals should view all videos and complete the questions.
An overall score will be generated and the teams with the highest scores will be selected for the Nutrition Jeopardy Game at the final weigh-in. Watch out for the first video which will be posted soon.

4. Nutrition Jeopardy Game - Nutrition Challenge
We have put together an interactive nutrition challenge for you dubbed the Nutrition Jeopardy Game and the winners will be awarded special prizes. This will be done at the final weigh-out and so you don’t want to miss out on this.

5. Webinars
At least, two webinars will be carried out by the nutritionists from the University of the West Indies. The webinar links will be emailed as well as uploaded on the WIOC PROFILE with the specific dates and times for you to tune in. This is another opportunity to interact with the nutritionists on board as well as other participants in the challenge.
