Medical Warehousing

Welcome to the NHF Hub for procuring, warehousing and distribution of the  Ministry of Health and Wellness’ List of Vital, Essential and Necessary Drugs and Medical Sundries. We ensure availability of these items for public health Institutions in primary, secondary and tertiary care in Jamaica.

How We Do This

Discover the reliability of our Pharmaceutical Warehouse, approved by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica and adhering to the Ministry of Health and Wellness Good Distribution Practices. Certified in March 2017 to ISO 9001:2015 standards, our warehouse operations, signify NHF’s commitment, organizational excellence and world-class operations.

We follow a meticulous tender process and continuously pursue mechanisms to improve inventory management and stock availability, as we seek to contribute to improved patient outcomes.

  • We acquire our supplies from approximately 80 qualified medical and pharmaceutical companies located in 20 countries. In addition, we actively utilise the Government of Jamaica’s electronic public procurement system, which facilitates the full life cycle of tendering processes, to source items locally and from around the world. Occasionally, we also utilise the resources of the international public health agency, the Pan American Health Organization, in sourcing critical, rare and hard-to-obtain drugs.
  • The NHF continues to identify and implement strategies to mitigate any supply-and-demand issues arising, which may sometimes include supplier delays, the discontinuation of products, and global product shortages. We have widened our supplier base through the sharing of awards for pharmaceutical items thereby minimizing interruptions to the supply of vital drugs to the public sector.

  • National Health Fund is dedicated to delivering pharmaceuticals to public health institutions in a consistent and timely manner. Our delivery team serves the island every two weeks according to the established delivery routes, with an objective of 95% adherence to the delivery schedule. Once an order is submitted on time, our team of order processing representatives, inventory officers, storemen, drivers and delivery attendants work diligently to have health institutions receive their supplies on the scheduled delivery date.
  • We operate from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Thursday, and from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays. However, being the provider of an essential service there is an emergency response service outside of the regular hours and during public holidays to satisfy the emergency needs of hospitals.

Support for Ministry of Health and Wellness Programmes

The NHF also provides effective support for the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ immunisation and HIV/STI/TB programmes. This includes the warehousing and distribution of vaccines, and the procurement, warehousing and distribution of antiretrovirals and laboratory reagents for sexually transmitted infections, respectively.

Pharmaceuticals & Sundry Awards

The NHF, through its Pharmaceutical Awards programme, grants contracts to both local and international suppliers for the procurement of essential drugs vital to public health. These critical medications are distributed to hospitals, health centers and the 106 Drug Serv locations across the island.
