 Pharmacy providers from both the public and private health sectors on Tuesday evening, November 28, 2006, received 26 awards for filling a record number of prescriptions for the period November 2005 ? October 2006. The NHF Pharmacy of the Year Award was won by Caledonia Mall Pharmacy, Mandeville for filling 49,217 prescriptions for both the NHFcard and JADEP programmes. Cornwall Regional Hospital, the leading public sector pharmacy, filled a total of 36,177 prescriptions.

2006 has seen a tremendous increase in the number of claims from Providers for NHF Individual Benefits moving from 587,145 claims at the end of December 2005 to 1,092,993 for the period January 2006 to October 2006.

Mr. Rae Barrett, CEO of the NHF says ?The increase can be attributed to the big effort made by the NHF during the year to market the individual benefits provided by the NHF and the efficient operation of the organisation which ensures that pharmacists? claims are paid on time all the time.? Speaking at the Awards Function, Minister of Health Horace Dalley, thanked the pharmacists for partnering with the Government to provide this service to Jamaicans.

Other pharmacies receiving NHF Awards were Liguanea Drug, Dixon?s Pharmacy, Sunshine Pharmacy, La Vega Pharmacy, Sav-La-Mar Hospital Pharmacy, KPH Pharmacy, and Drug Serv Pharmacies in May Pen , Mandeville, Downer and Union Square. Super Save Pharmacy received the Chairman?s Award for Record Keeping.

Six awards were also be made to the distributors of glucometers who through a partnership with the NHF since November 2005 have been providing thousands of these devices to NHF beneficiaries with diabetes.
