85 Males Vie for NHF 5 Star Health General Trophy In the 2015 Work-it-Out Weight Loss Competition

Eighty-five (85) men are competing to be named the NHF Five Star Health General in a six month competition which is scheduled to end in October this year. The men who are members of their company’s teams in the NHF Work-it-Out Competition are looking to lose weight and change their lifestyles in order to improve their health and well-being.

The NHF Work-it-Out Competition, which began with weigh-ins on May 2, 2015, is a workplace based weight loss competition and sixty teams made up of five members each have entered the competition this year. Thirty-three teams are from private sector companies with twenty-seven from the public sector. All teams have at least one male who is working to become a Five Star Health General.

Mr. Everton Anderson, Chief Executive Officer, NHF says, “While we continue our broad health promotion focus, the NHF Work-It Out Competition provides an opportunity to encourage Jamaican males to adopt a healthy lifestyle through participation in the competition. Various local studies have shown that a large percentage of men are not paying enough attention to their health and we want to change this and help improve men’s health.”

NHF’s 5 Star Health for Men programme launched earlier this year, is encouraging men to practice five ways to become healthy which are to eat healthy, work out, rest, get check-ups regularly and take medication as prescribed.

NHF is providing free exercise sessions over the six months for participants in the Work-It-Out Competition, as well as support through nutrition workshops and individualised meal plans and on-going information through our Facebook and Twitter pages.

DSC 0795Team Members from Xerox Montego Bay, are excited to be in the NHF Work-it-Out Competition for 2015, after they completed their first weigh-in at St. Andrew High School on Saturday May 2, 2015.
