8th Caribbean Conference on Health Financing Initiatives in Montego BayHealth Minister, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, will present the feature address to declare open the 8th Annual Caribbean Conference on Healthcare Financing Initiatives at the Hilton Rose Hall Hotel on November 12, 2013.

Representatives of local and international health insurance and health service management companies, including Health Ministers, other Ministers of Government, health consulting firms and national and social health financing officials and senior representatives from the National Health Fund will participate in the 8th Annual Caribbean Conference on Healthcare Financing Initiatives at the Hilton Rose Hall Hotel in Montego Bay, November 12-14.

The objective of the conference is to share information, increase understanding and share national expertise in designing and managing National Health Financing Initiatives.

The inaugural conference was held in Turks and Caicos in 2006 and has been held in six other Caribbean Islands over the years. Jamaica is the host country this year.

Dr. Cecil White, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the Conference, pointed out that the financing of healthcare is a challenge faced by countries all over the world.

“It remains a problem for governments not only in the Caribbean but for countries around the world as we grapple with the increase in non-communicable diseases,” he stated.

He noted that the National Health Fund of Jamaica, which is a sponsor of the conference, was introduced as a unique model of financing healthcare.

“The National Health Fund has over the years played a pivotal role in fulfilling its mandate of reducing the burden on healthcare,” he said.

Dr. White also expressed confidence that the conference would be a resounding success and would have “informative presentations and vibrant discussions.”
