Exchange-healthAfter several years of operating from a dilapidated two-bedroom house, which did not have the required capacity needed for a Type II health centre, the Exchange Health Centre now has a new home.

The new centre was constructed at a cost of $56 million which included sewage disposal, parking facilities and perimeter fencing, Minister of Health Dr Fenton Ferguson told those in attendance at the official opening ceremony last Friday.

Scores of residents, political representatives and employees of the North East Regional Health Authority turned out at the facility to celebrate what some described as a historic moment for the community, located on the outskirts of the bustling tourist town of Ocho Rios.

The project was funded by the CHASE Fund and the National Health Fund. According to Dr Ferguson, approximately $32.9 million came from the CHASE Fund and another $23 million from the NHF. He explained that of the total cost, $10.9 million will go towards procuring equipment for the health centre. (Read More)
