HART HILL TEAM THE BIGGEST LOSERS IN THE FIRST NHF WORKPLACE WEIGHT LOSS COMPETITION

Winners in the National Health Fund “Work It Out&” Challenge, a Body Mass Index (BMI) Weight Loss Team Competition were announced on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston.

The team from Hart Hill emerged winners in the 12 – week weight loss competition, beating the Omni Industries Team into second place and Grace Kennedy Remittance Services Limited Team who placed third. Each member of the winning team received an Ipod Classic.

Two members of the Hart Hill Team, Erica Nembhard and Donald McDonald, also placed in the top three of the individual prizes. However both were beaten by Aleta Bartley, from the South East Regional Health Authority, who lost the most weight during the competition. Admitting shyly that she still has a far way to go to achieve her ideal weight, Aleta had high, praises for her team members who motivated her during the competition. Individual winners received gym vouchers from an approved gym.

Mr. Hugh Lawson, CEO of the NHF congratulated the participants who completed the competition. “We were very heartened by the response to the NHF Work It Out Challenge. It spoke to the need for this kind of programme in the workplace to support individuals who want to lose weight.” He encouraged the team members to continue on their healthy lifestyle path even now that the competition had ended.

NHF Work it Out Competition started April 27th 2009 and ended July 17th 2009. It emphasized diet and physical activity as a way to reduce a person’s risk of developing chronic illnesses.

Each five- member team entered in the Challenge, completed weigh in and height measurements at the start and end of the competition. Initial and Final BMI’s were calculated using these results. Thirty-four (34) teams in all completed the competition, which started with fifty (50) teams.
