The NHF adds Systemic Lupus Erythematosus to the Individual Benefits Programme - April 30, 2019
Effective April 30, 2019, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (Lupus) is being added to the National Health Fund (NHF) Individual Benefits programme. The NHF Lupus Benefit will cover eighteen (18) Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for the treatment of the disease. This is expected to reduce the impact of this life-threatening disease and improve patients' quality of life, through improved access to medication.
“I am extremely happy that the NHF is able to respond to the needs of the population as it relates to certain health conditions. It is estimated that approximately 6,000 individuals in Jamaica are living with Lupus and will benefit from this addition to the NHF Card Programme,” said Everton Anderson, CEO, NHF.
Patients with Lupus, wishing to access this benefit must apply for the NHF Card by completing the yellow application form and a TRN is required. If they are already enrolled for another condition covered by NHF, they must complete the Change Form. Both must be signed by a doctor.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks the organs of the body. Patients with this condition are at risk for a number of complications including arthritis, neurological problems (strokes, seizures) and renal complications.
A complete list of the drugs covered for the condition is available on the NHF’s website at www.nhf.org.jm. For further information on the addition of Lupus to the NHF Individual Benefits Programme please call our customer service centre at 906-1106 or 1-888-342-5643.
