MAJOR REPAIRS TO CORNWALL REGIONAL HOSPITAL ROOF TO GET UNDERWAY SOON

MAJOR REPAIRS TO CORNWALL REGIONAL HOSPITAL ROOF TO GET UNDERWAY SOON

The Cornwall Regional Hospital has signed a contract valued at $36 million with Alphasure Structure & Roofing Limited to repair the roofs of the hospital and staff quarters. Funding for this contract was obtained from the National Health Fund (NHF) Health Support Fund that provides grants to public sector health entities for improving the delivery of health care.

Mr. Daniel Evans, Project Manager says ?The staff quarters comprising five (5) blocks and approximately 180 residences, are in very bad shape. The first phase of the project will begin there shortly.? He says because the roof repairs are starting in the rainy season, it was best to begin with the smaller areas first in order to minimise further water damage in the event of heavy rains. Repairs to the roof over the laundry which is annexed to the hospital will also be addressed in this phase.

Members of staff living in the staff quarters have welcomed the good news of the roof repairs and hope that it will be done as quickly as possible.

Work on the hospital roofs will not get underway until the dry season which begins in December. The existing water proof membranes on the roofs will be lifted and new ones installed on the tenth, sixth and third floors, as well as the Accident and Emergency Department of the hospital.

The project is expected to be completed in eight (8) months by next April 2007.

The NHF has approved approximately $3.2 billion in grants for various projects in the public health sector and several hospitals have undertaken repairs to roofs and general refurbishing with grants from the NHF.
