MORE GENERIC DRUGS ADDED TO NHF DRUG LIST – Over 50 New Generic Labels Added In 2009

The National Health Fund, NHF added five new generic labels to the NHF Individual Benefits Drug List during December 2009, bringing the total number of new generic drugs added during the year to fifty (50). Overall, approximately 100 drugs were added to the NHF Drug List, including eight (8) new active ingredients during 2009.

Salbutamol-Sandoz Inhaler is a new generic label for the active ingredient Salbutamol for the treatment of Asthma. The subsidy is $149.97 for each 200 dose inhaler. Gliride-2 is a new label for Glimepiride for the treatment of Diabetes, with a subsidy of $29.31 for each tablet. Auromet is a new label for Metformin with a subsidy of $2.20 for each 500mg tablet. Epilat Retard is the new label for Nifedipine used for the treatment of Hypertension and Ischaemic Heart Disease with a subsidy of $5.01 per tablet. Risdal is the new generic label for Risperidone used for the treatment of Major Depression and Psychosis.

Over 1,300 prescription items are now on the NHF Drug List and patients and their health providers can review a complete list of subsidized prescriptions on the NHF Drug List on the NHF website (www. NHF.ORG.JM)
