New Waiting Room for Annotto Bay Hospital

New Waiting Room for Annotto Bay Hospital

Persons using the Accident and Emergency unit at the Annotto Bay Hospital will soon enjoy more comfortable surroundings with the construction of a new waiting room. The new facility will accommodate 100 patients and will be funded by the National Health Fund.

It is expected that the new waiting area will bring significant benefits to the facility, improving patient experience, providing more privacy and comfort and reduced pressure on the Accident and Emergency staff.

There will also be more efficient handling of emergency cases and there will be reduced risk of the spreading of infection currently posed by the overcrowding.

The outpatient waiting space now accommodates approximately 200 persons weekly however it is inadequate and the spillover of patients has to be accommodated under two tents. This situation is not only uncomfortable for patients but does not allow for privacy between clinician and patient.

Outpatient clinic at the facility will also be consolidated into one location providing easier access to support services such as surgical, emergency transportation, diagnostic X-ray/ultrasound and laboratory. The new facility will also incorporate the return of the High Risk Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinics.

Maintenance of the new facility will be integrated into the regions preventative maintenance programme, with scheduled inspections and annual audits.
