NHF COMMUNITY HEALTH DAYS TO CONTINUE IN 2009 – Beginning In Port Antonio & Catadupa

The National Health Fund (NHF) will continue to organise and hold Community Health Days aiming for twice weekly during 2009, while also participating in other community events. This is based on the success of the programme in 2008 in which 49,000 screening tests were conducted at eighty-six NHF Community Health Days and 117 other community events, arranged by other groups and organizations.

This year’s community programme will begin on Tuesday January 13, 2009 at the First Holiness Church of the Apostolic Faith, 39 Redhassell Road, Port Anotonio, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Thursday Janaury 15, 2009 at St. Matthews Anglican Church, Catadupa, St. James, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents of these and surrounding communities are invited to attend and obtain free health checks including pap smear for cervical cancer; tests for blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood sugar tests using the glucometer; the A-one- C test which checks what the blood sugar level has been over the past 3 months; ECG tests for the heart and screening for eye problems. Free Foot Care will also be available for diabetics.

Representatives from the NHF will also enrol persons 60 years and over for the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly (JADEP) card and provide information on other NHF benefits.
