NHF INCREASES DAILY DRUG LIMIT FOR FLUOXETINE FOR MAJOR DEPRESSION

The National Health Fund (NHF) has increased the daily amount of the drug Fluoxetine allowed for its beneficiaries enrolled for severe Major Depression. These patients may now access up to 80 milligrams of the drug per day up from the previous amount of 60 milligrams per day.

Persons applying for the NHFCard must have a doctor sign their application form and indicate whether they have a mild or severe from of their chronic disease. When enrolled, beneficiaries are allowed a daily amount of their drugs on the NHF Drug List. These allowances for the mild and severe forms of the fifteen diseases covered by the NHF are set by the Medical Review Committee of the NHF and are based on the amounts usually prescribed for treating these diseases. The Medical Review Committee is responsible for reviewing the NHF Drug List and recommending changes to this list.

Other changes announced to the NHF Drug List include the addition of new pack sizes for Venlafaxine under the label Effexor XR Capsules and the addition of two new presentations for Insulin Regular and Insulin Isophane under the label Novolin R Injection Penfill.
