NHF Individual Benefits Programme Exceeds $10 Billion Mark

The National Health Fund, NHF surpassed the J$10 billion mark for financing of its Individual Benefits Programme in September this year. Under this Programme over five hundred thousand Jamaican residents are enrolled to receive assistance to purchase or obtain their medication using the NHFCard for all ages or the Jamaica Drug for the Elderly Programme (JADEP) Card.

This milestone was revealed by the Chairman of the NHF, Mr. Leslie Campbell, during his remarks at the function to launch the refurbishing of the Operating Theatre at the Port Maria Hospital in St Mary on Friday November 18, 2011.

Since 2004 the NHF has provided subsidies amounting to $9.3 billion for its members using the NHFCard and $1.4 billion for providing drugs for members using the JADEP Card. Members with the NHFCard enjoy fixed subsidies on over 1,300 prescription items for fifteen chronic diseases. Members with the JADEP Card have access to seventy-three drugs free of cost for ten of the fifteen chronic diseases covered by the NHF, but pay the pharmacy $40 for each prescription item dispensed up to a maximum of $240.

Members using the NHFCard and JADEP card are able to fill their prescriptions using one of the 374 NHFCard Participating Pharmacies or 253 JADEP Participating Pharmacies islandwide.

The chronic diseases covered by the NHF are asthma, arthritis, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (Enlarged Prostate), Breast Cancer, Diabetes, Epilepsy, Glaucoma, High Cholesterol, Hypertension, Ischaemic Heart Disease, Major Depression, Prostate Cancer, Psychosis, Rhuematic Fever/Heart Disease and Vascular Disease.
