NHF INSTALLS NEW PHARMACY AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

NHF INSTALLS NEW PHARMACY AND INVENTORY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
-To Improve Efficiency In Its Pharmaceutical Operations

The National Health Fund (NHF) has implemented an electronic inventory management solution, the Pharmacy and Inventory Management System (PIMS) for the management and control of its pharmaceutical inventory from point of purchase to point of dispensing.

Mr. Everton Anderson CEO at the NHF says, “The implementation of PIMS will enhance the capabilities and add levels of efficiency to the management and dispensing of pharmaceutical drugs by NHF operated pharmacies.”

The NHF procures, manages and distributes pharmaceutical and medical sundries for the public health sector and retails pharmaceuticals through its ten Drug Serv Pharmacies and three public pharmacies – Bustamante Hospital for Children, the Percy Junor and Port Maria Hospital pharmacies.

The PIMS which was introduced on Monday December 1, 2014, is now in operation at the Bustamante Hospital for Children Pharmacy and will be rolled out to twelve (12) other NHF pharmacies by Mid-April 2015.

The electronic system which provides for pharmaceutical prescription processing and dispensing, has resulted in several enhancements to NHF’s pharmacy operations. These include improved inventory management with centralized access to the inventory management system, controlled access and security and Audit Trail for monitoring use and access of the system.

Mr. Anderson noted, “In addition the management of the expiry of pharmaceuticals, the tracking and traceability of pharmaceuticals and the movement of items between locations (loan or reassignment) will be greatly improved. Other capabilities of the system are real time access to inventory information across all our facilities and reports and information to facilitate decision making.”

Advanced Integrated Systems won the contract, valued at US$124,000 for two years, for the supply of the PIMS which was tailored to meet the needs of the NHF pharmaceutical operations.

Mr. Anderson says he looks forward to the many improvements to be gained by the PIMS. He congratulated the NHF team comprising member of ICT, Drug Serv/Pharmacy, Finance and Audit Departments for the dedication and commitment over the past few months in designing and implementing the system.
