NHF OBSERVES NATIONAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WEEK 2014

NHF OBSERVES NATIONAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WEEK 2014

The National Health Fund will intensify their promotion of a healthy lifestyle during National Physical Activity Week to be observed April 6 – 12.

Mr. Everton Anderson, CEO of the NHF says “achieving full health potential does not depend solely on the provision of health services.  Many other factors, including lifestyle contribute to the health of an Individual.  Most persons have a basic understanding of the positive and negative effects lifestyles can have on their health and therefore have a part to play in the effort to improve health status and achieve the health potential of the nation.”

During this week, NHF will reiterate the importance of regular physical activity as a way of preventing non communicable diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.  Mass Aerobic Sessions are planned for Kingston on Tuesday, April 8 inside the Towers Parking Lot and Friday, April 11 at the Ocean Village Shopping Centre in Ocho Rios.  The week’s activities will culminate with a Health Fair scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at the Port Antonio Old Marina in Portland. Participants to the Health Fair will enjoy free health checks and fun activities for both children and adults.

National Physical Activity Week in Jamaica was initiated by the National Health Fund in 2009.
