NHF READY TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WEEK 2013 (April 6-13)

NHF READY TO OBSERVE NATIONAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WEEK 2013 April (6-13)

April 6-13 will be observed as National Physical Activity Week as the National Health Fund continues its drive toward encouraging and supporting Jamaicans to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Mr. Everton Anderson, CEO for the NHF says, “Regular physical activity is one of the most important things anyone can do for their health. It helps in reducing the risk of a number of lifestyle illnesses including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, 2 of the 15 illnesses covered by the NHF”. He continued, “Although we provide a subsidy for the purchase of medication for these illnesses we still believe in educating persons on how best to avoid developing these conditions.

During the week, the NHF has planned 3 Mass Aerobic Sessions which will be held in Portmore at the Heart Academy on April 9, in New Kingston at the Emancipation Park on April 10 and at the Jonathan Grant High School on April 11. The celebration of the week will culminate with a NHF Health Fair on Saturday April 13 at the Norman Manley High School on Maxfield Avenue, where there will be free health checks and activities for the entire family.

National Physical Activity Week was first observed in 2009.
