NHF SIGNS 2- YEAR CONTRACTS FOR 576 PHARMACEUTICAL ITEMS FOR THE PUBLIC HEALTH SECTOR

 

The National Health Fund, NHF yesterday signed forty contracts with local and international pharmaceutical companies for drugs on the Vital Essential and Necessary (VEN) List, to be used in public health facilities and NHF Drug Serv Pharmacies. Five hundred and seventy-six (576) items have been procured under the current pharmaceutical tender, which is to be supplied through forty-seven contracts valued US$33.4Million or JA$3.84 Billion over the next two years.

PharmaTender-signing-2015-164The largest award was made to Facey Commodity Company Limited valued at $557,235,140.40, who will be providing forty-eight (48) items comprising a wide range of drugs including narcotics, anti-infectives and anti-cancer drugs.

Speaking today at the contract signing ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston, Mr. Sterling B. Soares, Board Chairman for NHF said in order to help secure a constant flow of drugs, the NHF has shared the award for selected drugs with at least two suppliers. One hundred and twenty items have two suppliers each and seven items have three suppliers each.

 

Mr. Everton Anderson, Chief Executive Officer at NHF says the procurement process yielded fifty-one bids and following evaluation recommendations were made to the relevant committees for the award of the forty-seven (47) contracts.

Nine (9) contracts were valued at less than $15M; there were fifteen (15) contracts each valued over J$15M but less than J$40M and twenty three (23) contracts, each valued over J$40M.

The details of the 2015-2017 pharmaceutical tender awards are to be published on the NHF website in the next two weeks.
