The annual allocation of the National Health Fund’s (NHF) EduCare Grant for students pursuing healthcare studies has been increased from JMD $15 million to JMD 25 million. 

This boost comes as the Agency has seen a consistent need for financial support amid the high tuition rates in the healthcare field.

“The decision to increase the sum dispersed each year reflects the NHF’s dedication to fostering educational advancement in the healthcare sector,” Chief Executive Officer of the NHF, Everton Anderson, stated.

“Through increasing the allocation,” he continued, “we aim to further reduce the financial barriers faced by students. We have witnessed first-hand how impactful and transformative this grant has been for our future healthcare professionals and hope to make a difference in the lives of many others.”

The NHF EduCare Grant was launched in 2020 to alleviate the monetary strain faced by aspiring health professionals in completing their course of study. This, so that students are able to matriculate and contribute significantly to the delivery of healthcare in Jamaica. To date the NHF has invested over 75 million JMD in scholarships, helping over 100 students.

Now in its fifth cycle, the EduCare Grant, has had a significant impact on the lives of students. Peter-John McDermott, an EduCare Grantee shared, “I was unsure where the additional funding for my education would come from. The NHF EduCare Grant was truly a godsend in this situation.”

The 2024 application period closes on July 26, 2024. To be eligible, students must have completed their second year of study in an accredited local institution; hold a GPA above 3.0; be able to prove need, among other requirements. Application forms are accessible via our website at nhf.org.jm.
