NHF’S SPONSORSHIP CONTRIBUTES TO SUCCESS OF DIABETES WEEK 2004

The Diabetes Association of Jamaica (DAJ) has commended the National Health Fund (NHF) for its contribution to 2004 National Diabetes Week activities, which assisted the Association in meeting several of its objectives for the week.

The NHF sponsorship of $200,000 to the DAJ provided foot care for 300 persons, 150 Doppler tests, 150 Blood sugar tests, 60 Micro Albumin tests for the kidney, and 245 eye screening tests.

Mrs. Lola Rook-wood Neckles, Branch Manager for the Corporate Area in a thank-you letter the NHF said, the NHF contribution to the week?s activities ?assisted us in a big way to achieve some of our goals set for the week.? She said that the screenings were carried out in various locations including rural parishes and at the Annual Health Fair of the DAJ held in Kingston. The week was a tremendous success she noted with the contribution from the NHF.

Mr. Rae Barrett, CEO of the NHF says, ?The NHF is committed to supporting the activities of established non-government health organizations in their efforts to identify persons who are suffering from chronic diseases, to educate the public about chronic diseases and in the promotion of healthy lifestyles.?

So far for 2004 the NHF has provided sponsorship of approximately $1.15 million for health promotion activities and health screenings by non-government organizations.
