Contracts valued at over J$1B were signed yesterday (February 27), by the National Health Fund for the supply of medical sundries for government hospitals and health centres islandwide.

Twenty two (22) local and international pharmaceutical suppliers were awarded eighteen month contracts for the supply of two hundred and forty (240) medical sundries items, such as cotton, bandages, gauze, stomach tubes and disposable syringes.

The Pharmaceutical Division of the National Health Fund is responsible for the procurement, warehousing and distribution of pharmaceuticals and medical sundries for the government’s health facilities throughout the island.

Chairman of the Board of Management, Mr. Sterling B. Soares stated that the procurement of medical sundries is done by means of an international competitive tender process, adding that the government in obliged to provide these items to ensure the effective provision of services in the government hospitals and health centres islandwide.

The NHF will soon request bids for another thirty seven (37) items not included in this process.
