THREE (3) MORE GLUCOMETERS ADDED TO NHF INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS PROGRAMME

THREE (3) MORE GLUCOMETERS ADDED TO NHF INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS PROGRAMME

NHF beneficiaries now have a total of ten glucometers to choose from, as effective (April 25, 2007) three new glucometers and associated diabetic supplies were added to the NHF/Distributors Diabetic Supplies Programme. The new glucometers and diabetic supplies are: The Accuchek Active Glucometer and test strips distributed by Inter-Commercial Distributors; the On-Call Ez Glucometer and the On-Call Plus Glucometer On-Call Plus Test strips, On Call Now Lancets and Mission 2+ urine test strips distributed by So-Med Distributers.

The On Call Plus and Accuchek Active Test Strips each with a pack size of 50, will receive the NHF subsidy of $1,693.01; The Mission test urine strips will receive a NHF subsidy of $998.40.

The provision of glucometers to NHF beneficiaries is the result of a unique partnership between the NHF, a public sector entity, and the private sector distributors of these instruments. Glucometers are needed by diabetic patients to measure their blood glucose (sugar) levels so as to properly manage their condition.

Under the programme, the distributors have agreed to provide glucometers free of charge to diabetic patients and the NHF subsidises the test strips and other items used in the measuring process. The programme began in November 2005.

Thousands of beneficiaries enrolled with the NHF have obtained free glucometers and improved the management of their diabetes. The distributors reserve the right to require that beneficiaries obtaining a glucometer purchase test strips when doing so.

In order to obtain a glucometer from the participating companies NHF beneficiaries enrolled for diabetes should seek advice from their medical doctor or pharmacist on the purpose and use of these devices and decide on the specific device they wish to obtain, before contacting the NHF with their request.
