Winners In NHF Work It Out Challenge 2010 Weight Loss Competition

The team from Jamaica Broilers Group- Content Agricultural Products came out the champions in the NHF ” Work It Out ” Challenge 2010 Weight Loss Competition, at the awards function on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at the Knutsford Court Hotel, Kingston. The team, which was led by Cyrine Cargil, beat twenty other companies for the top spot in the nine-month competition. Other members of the winning team are Jodian Lounds, Keron Williams, Johnathan Neil and Joni McLeod.

The weight loss competition began on April 24, 2010 with the first weigh-in of the contestants and 340 persons comprising 68 teams entered. However by the end of the 37-week competition, only 130 contestants comprising 20 full teams and 12 incomplete teams attended the final weigh-in. The contestants lost a total of 1040 pounds during the competition. Other winners were the teams from Illuminat Jamaica Limited that placed second and the Ministry of Finance that placedthird. The top three teams received Spa Packages for each member.

Mrs. Debra Guiness-Brown, NHF Wellness Coordinator says although she expected that not all the teams would persevere to the end, she was encouraged by the commitment of those who completed the competition. “We decided to make the length of the competition nine months instead of the three months as we did in the first year, because we wanted participants to see weight loss as not just doing a crash diet but that during the competition they would adopt a healthy lifestyle. This is a more sustainable way of losing and maintaining a healthy weight and reducing the risk of developing a chronic disease.”

Tashna Samuels, from Heart Trust NTA Corporate Office lost the most weight in the NHF “Work it Out ” Challenge, and shared her testimonial at the awards function, including holding up the now huge pants she used to wear before she lost 50 pounds in the competition. She won a Blackberry Bold from LIME. Other individual winners were Joni McLeod from Jamaica Broilers- Content Agricultural Products, who placed second and Denise Harvey from the Ministry of National Security who placed third. They received Blackberries from DIGICEL.

The 2011 NHF ” Work It Out ” Challenge Weight Loss Competition will be launched during Physical Activity Week in April.
