Double Subsidy for Children
Children who are diagnosed with chronic illnesses have increased vulnerabilities that can negatively impact their growth and development, as well as quality of life. Providentially, the NHF has employed specific strategies to increase affordability and improve access to medications so that our nation’s children can have better clinical outcomes.
The Fund currently offers double the benefits for children under the age of 19. This increase in drug subsidies for children was implemented in September 2016 to address the rising out-of-pocket expenses borne by beneficiaries, bringing the average subsidy rate for pharmaceutical payments for this age group to 80% of the cost of drugs under the programme.
