OVER A DOZEN GLUCOMETERS NOW ON NHF INDIVIDUAL BENEFITS PROGRAMME

On March 1, 2008 National Health Fund (NHF) beneficiaries will have a total of thirteen glucometers to choose from, as H.D. Hopwood will be adding the Medisense Optium Xceed Glucometer and associated diabetic supplies to the NHF/Distributors Diabetic Supplies Programme.

The Medisense Optium Xceed Glucometer and blood glucose test strips are packaged in 50s and the NHF subsidy is $1,693.01 per pack.

The provision of glucometers to NHF beneficiaries is the result of a unique partnership between the NHF, a public sector entity, and the private sector distributors of these instruments. Glucometers are needed by diabetic patients to measure their blood glucose (sugar) levels so as to properly manage their condition.

The other twelve glucometers now on the programme are:

1. The Prestige IQ glucometer from T. Geddes Grant & Qualcare
2. The Precision Xtra glucometer from H.D. Hopwood
3. The Easi-Chek glucometer applicator from Health Brands
4. The EZ Smart glucometer from Carimed & Qualcare
5. The Accu-Chek Advantage glucometer from Inter- Commercial & LASCO
6. The Accu-Chek Active glucometer from Inter- Commercial & LASCO
7. The TRUEread glucometer from T. Geddes Grant
8. The On-Call Ez Glucometer from So-Med Distributors
9. The On-Call Plus Glucometer from So-Med Distributors
10. The Prodigy Eject Meter from Wynlee Distributor
11. The Prodigy Glucose Audio Meter from Wynlee Distributor
12. The Prodigy Glucose Meter (non-Talking) from Wynlee Distributor

Under the NHF/Distributors Diabetic Supplies Programme, the distributors have agreed to provide glucometers free of charge to diabetic patients and the NHF subsidises the test strips and other items used in the measuring process.
